Chariot of fire or UFO?

2:11 As they continued walking and talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them, and Elijah ascended in a whirlwind into heaven.

2:12 Elisha kept watching and crying out, “Father, father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” But when he could no longer see him, he grasped his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. 2 Kings 2:1-12

What do we see here? When Elijah was taken up into heaven, the explanation “God” was all that his contemporaries could name, but today we ask if there could there be a more prosaic explanation, a simple explanation for what looked magical to the uninformed.

chariot of fire or ufo?“A chariot and horses of fire”–not the literal chariot you might be thinking of, nor literal horses of fire but an apt description for something never seen before, not able to be described without metaphor because a completely new reality, where words have no context for a nuts-and-bolts description of a physical craft that is not following Earth-bound rules of physics.

As Erich von Däniken popularized, the “Chariots of the Gods” sound a lot like descriptions of UFOs by people who have no words for these things. Jacques Vallee adds philosophical rigor in his collection of folk reports of “anomalous aerial phenomena.”

The Transfiguration on the Mount, told here in Mark’s Gospel, can be viewed through the same lens, another example of possible Evidence of Alien Contact Revealed in Scripture. The rocket shape used in iconography might be a sort of stock image or intuitively correct; these legends are imbued with mystery and the unknown. The sudden radiant appearance of Jesus, the two figures seen with him, a cloud that “overtakes” them and booms a commanding voice, and then the split-second vanishing act all add up to a set of inexplicable evidences, unless we resort to unearthly explanations.

chariot of fire or ufo?9:2 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 9:3 and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. 9:4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. 9:5 Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 9:6 He did not know what to say, for they were terrified.9:7 Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!” 9:8 Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus. 9:9 As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

Do Justice, Love Kindness, Walk Humbly with Your God

Micah 6:1-8
6:1 Hear what the LORD says: Rise, plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice.

6:2 Hear, you mountains, the controversy of the LORD, and you enduring foundations of the earth; for the LORD has a controversy with his people, and he will contend with Israel.

6:3 “O my people, what have I done to you? In what have I wearied you? Answer me!

6:4 For I brought you up from the land of Egypt, and redeemed you from the house of slavery; and I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

6:5 O my people, remember now what King Balak of Moab devised, what Balaam son of Beor answered him, and what happened from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the saving acts of the LORD.”

6:6 “With what shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before God on high? Do justice, love kindness, walk humblyShall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?

6:7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?”

6:8 He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

God wills that humanity now learn a Greater Community Way of Knowledge.

God wills that humanity join together out of great necessity and urgency to preserve human civilization in the face of great change that is coming to the world.

God wills that humanity prepare for its future and destiny within a Greater Community of intelligent life in the universe.

God wills that the religions cooperate with one another, for they are all born of the same Source. And, ultimately, if correctly understood in the Light of the New Revelation, they all serve the same purpose and outcome, which is to keep Knowledge alive in the world, to give people the opportunity to discover their greater life and purpose within the circumstances of the world.”–Walking with the Messenger

For now we must seriously dedicate ourselves to resolving conflict within and among ourselves. God’s warnings, blessings and preparations throughout time have been calling to redeem our Higher Self–and our better nature.  It is time we heeded.

The New Message on Genesis 1:1-5: Let there be light

Knowledge-Relationships-GodGenesis 1:1-5
1:1 In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth,

1:2 the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.

1:3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

1:4 And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.

1:5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

“Separation created this reality, for God knew that the separated must have a foundation upon which to exist. And it has set in train the physical Universe that you are only beginning to comprehend and that you must learn to serve and to recognize if you are to outgrow its fascinations and to forgive its tragedies.”–What is Creation? (February 4, 2008)

“There is no Creation Story. There is no final culmination to all experience that you can conceive of. So what then is religion without a Creation Story, without a final culminating experience and without a Judgment Day? Clearly, if religion is to be of service to its peoples, it must have a deeper foundation. It cannot be a story or a threat.”–Life in the Universe, Chapter 13: GOD OF THE GREATER COMMUNITY
